Wedding Planning tips from the Photographer Bride that you won’t want to miss!
Zoe and Daniel met in Nashville, Tennesse in 2019 and soon their adventure as a couple began. These two adventurous souls love traveling and the outdoors, so The Wilds was an easy “yes!” when they began planning their wedding day. With sweeping views surrounded by the stunning Brown County, Indiana forest and a clean modern farmhouse aesthetic, Zoe and Daniel knew we were the perfect choice. As a professional wedding photographer herself, Zoe has great insights to share for your own wedding planning process at The Wilds.
The Wilds: The energy of your whole wedding day was so fun and relaxed! What things did you and Daniel prioritize to accomplish that through your wedding planning process?
Zoe: Daniel and I were very laid back. We didn’t want anything super extravagant, we just wanted a beautiful venue to have a great day with friends and family. I am drawn to warmer colors, so the fall was perfect.
As a wedding photographer, our biggest priorities were photography, good food, a great DJ, and tasty dessert! We booked my photography mentor, Matthew Doudt, got the Shawarma buffet from One World Catering, got a phenomenal DJ from Complete Weddings, and we opted for a donut wall instead of cake, and used Rainbow Bakery in Bloomington!
The Wilds: We love how that all came together! Another flawless wedding planning moment was your outfitting. Tell us a bit about your clothing choices as bride and groom.
Zoe: Daniel’s suit is a custom IndoChino tailored suit. He had our wedding date stitched on the inside of the jacket in our wedding colors. My dress was from David’s Bridal. I tried it on and fell in love. I loved the way the florals on the dress tied into my floral tattoo!
The Wilds: What would you say was the most memorable part of your wedding day?
Zoe: It was the most magical day of our lives! During our ceremony, the wind picked up and swirled the leaves behind us, catching the dappled sunlight between the trees. This is the moment that EVERYONE talks about to this day, nearing a year later!
The Wilds: Your ceremony was really personal to you both as well, what personal detail did you include when working with your officiant?
Zoe: Our officiant – Hoosier Officiant – incorporated Harry Potter quotes and themes into our ceremony because we both love the series. It was truly magical and all of our guests loved it (even if they knew the series or not!)
The Wilds: After a lovely ceremony, it was time to celebrate! Tell us a bit about your wedding planning and decor choices for the reception.
Zoe: The only main DIY was the donut wall… and my dad made it! He incorporated the venue colors and created it all on his own. It was the perfect way to display our Rainbow Bakery selection.
The florals were minimal but WE LOVED THEM! We used For the Beauty florals and Dani did such an incredible job. I gave her minimal direction – the colors of the wedding and that I wanted baby’s breath… and she did amazing!
The Wilds: Long after the party is your future together. Where do you see yourself and Daniel in 50 years?
Zoe: We love to travel together. Seeing the world and experiencing new cultures, tasting new foods, and hiking new trails with the person I love… nothing beats it.
