Get all of your wedding photography tips in today’s Q&A with top Indiana photographer, Jordan Leffel.
Today we have the pleasure of sharing a wedding photographer Q&A with top Midwest photographer and highly recommended vendor, Jordan Leffel. We at The Wilds and all of her couples praise her for her sweet and fun demeanor and for her dreamy romantic photography. We sat down with her to chat about her approach to wedding photography and the tips that she wished all engaged couples knew before they book their own while enjoying the stunning wedding of Brandi and Jeremy!

We’d love a little intro for any readers who haven’t gotten to know you yet! Tell us a bit about yourself and what you love about being a wedding photographer.
My name is Jordan. I’m married to my college sweetie, Kyle, and we have four blondey blue eyed little boys. I graduated with my masters in Occupational Therapy, practiced for a few years but really longed for a career that allowed some creativity to my season of life. Then, I found myself enjoying photography (practicing with my family and friends families) while being self taught. I made the plunge into the wedding world 4 years ago.
I have grown to LOVE the opportunity to put my life on hold for a day and enter into someone else’s story in such an intimate way. My wish is that I will never take that for granted. With every toast, dance shared, first look with dad, you will surely find me crying behind my camera!

We’ve witnessed your exceptional care for your couples. What are the characteristics of a couple’s experience with you as their wedding photographer?
Thank you- that truly is the greatest compliment.
It’s weighty to me that I’m shooting one of the most profound, memorable moments of someone’s life. Not just for the couple, but also their parents, grandparents, brothers, sisters, etc. I’m a mom- I understand in a deep way what long nights, tears, happy days, and sad days went into shaping these incredible people that are getting married. I think being emotionally present on a wedding day is so important. For me, that allows me to capture true emotion!
I also value relationships. It’s not uncommon for me to grab a coffee or meal with my couples prior to the wedding day to cultivate friendship. I hope that on the wedding day that contributes to couples feeling completely comfortable in front of my camera.

Wedding Photography takes a lot of behind-the-scenes time and work and definitely isn’t easy. What keeps you so motivated and excited in your work?
As simple as it sounds, continuing to connect with couples and book clients who share connection and joy with one another. I am always inspired by authentic love- real moments- studying my couples and knowing what makes their story unique. I also love an adventure! New locations whether for engagements or weddings keep me interested. I also love staying educated and learning from other photographers who I look up to in the industry. Not only in their beautiful photos- but also in how they care for their couples.

We are big on offering our engaged couples insight, and we would love to know one of your wedding photography tips! What is one thing that you wish all couples knew to ask or look for when choosing their own wedding photographer?
There are some talented, professional photographers. The beauty of that is there is one certainly out there that you will click with. Don’t settle for less. For your experience, it’s worth finding someone who gets you, makes you feel like yourself, and values similar things as you.

As a Wedding Photographer, what do you hope to see more of in future weddings?
Within aesthetics, I look forward to weddings with colorful palettes! I’m loving patterned bridesmaid dresses, receptions gushing with florals, and brides adding extra style to their wedding making it unique to them.

We’re loving those elements showing up more and more as well! And what about the industry as a whole?
As for the industry, I’m hopeful that after some long years of Covid rearranging plans, we’ve become sober-minded to what weddings are supposed to be about, right? Some of my favorite weddings of my career have been during Covid when many plans got scratched, but two lovers chose to make some big promises to each other and say “I do” forever. I want to take all of that along with me and learn from that. With all of the beauty, hard work, detail, and investment that goes into that day- not to lose sight of what really matters and celebrate love!

We’ve enjoyed looking at Brandi and Jeremy’s incredible wedding day throughout this Wedding Photographer Q&A. What were some of your favorite parts about this exceptional day?
One of the immediate things that I appreciated about Brandi and Jeremy was their authenticity. There was no pretense. That matched their wedding day, a simple elegance I’ll never forget. Instead of a bridal party, they invited some of their closest friends to help them get ready and enjoy the day. They wanted to preserve the things about their day that mattered most- the love they shared and to have a good time! It was certainly one of the most memorable weddings I’ve ever had the opportunity to shoot.
